‘Tis the season for cooking and baking up goodies. I’m always on the lookout for interesting recipes and discovered this one in the archives of wptv.com, believe it or not. Now, it may not sound quite right but I’m intrigued enough to try it out: Sauerkraut Surprise (Chocolate) Cake. You read that right – sauerkraut. Just reading the story of how Channel 5 got a hold of this concoction will make you curious enough to put the recipe to the test.
“A listener, Lin, did a Google search after hearing another caller ask for this unusual cake, and forwarded a copy. Then, we received an e-mail from our listener Millie who has used this recipe since finding it in Better Homes and Gardens magazine in 1975…”
Believe it or not, she adds, the sauerkraut does not add a sour flavor but instead gives the cake moisture and the texture of coconut.
